Quentin Mckenna: The United States should divest from the entire Israeli-Palestinian question

Dear Editor,

Michael Rabb in his letter (February 4) is asking for support to compel the University of Colorado to divest from companies that support Israel’s “apartheid” of Palestine.

I have a much better suggestion. Why don’t we compel our politicians to divest the United States from the entire Israeli-Palestinian question?

It’s positively nuts to think the United States can craft some settlement or compromise between the Israelis and the Palestinians of whose gripes go back to Biblical times.

So far in this presidential campaign Ron Paul appears to be the only politician with the back-bone to do it.

Quentin, I agree with you and Ron Paul: stop $30 billion in aid to Israel. They don't need it and we can't afford it.
But the "gripes" don't go back to biblical times: the conflict is only about 120 years old — when the Zionist Jews started the project to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. The Zionists have been stealing the indigenous people's land, disposessing the Palestinians ever since the 1890s. After world war 2, in Israel's so-called war of independence (1947-48) there was major ethnic cleansing of Palestinians — hundreds of villages were destroyed (see Dier Yassin massacre, etc.). There are today something like 7 million Palestinian regugees and exiles as a direct result of Israels belligerent and genocidal behavior. And it continues today — with new settlements being built in east Jerusalem and in the west bank on confiscated Palestinian land.

Thanks for your concepts. One thing we’ve notecid is the fact banks along with financial institutions know the dimensions and spending practices of consumers and as well understand that most people max away their real credit cards around the holidays. They correctly take advantage of this specific fact and start flooding your current inbox along with snail-mail box along with hundreds of no interest APR credit card offers soon after the holiday season comes to an end. Knowing that should you be like 98% of American general public, you’ll soar at the opportunity to consolidate financial debt and move balances for 0 interest rates credit cards.
