Dear Editor:
I am outraged and disappointed that there is even a consideration to allow Mountain Bikes on Anemone Mountain. For the past 30 – 40 years Sunshine Canyon has been a Wildlife Sanctuary. That means that Sunshine Canyon is a place for wildlife to escape the ever encroaching presence of humans. There is no parking in the canyon and anyone who has tried to hike up Sanitas or Centennial on the weekends knows there is no where to park in those lots. The north face of Anemone Mountain is steep, so steep that only expert Mountain Bikers will be able to navigate the proposed switchbacks. Just creating the bike trails will distroy a delicate balance of nature that peacefully exists on that Mountain.
Are we really still cow towing to the Mountain Bikers and willing to sacrifice Anemone Mountain to be destroyed by a theme park for their enjoyment, and their enjoyment only? By considering Mountain Bikes on Anemone, the Council is sending the message that the whole lengthy CCG process was a sham. Will the City Council have the courage to say no to this vocal minority? Do they really want their legacy be one of eroding away protections that the visionary leaders of Boulder’s Open Space program so wisely started those decades ago?
