The conversation for and against Municipalization of energy in Boulder is often debated in a very polarized way. I support Dan King for City Council because he keeps the end in mind in every conversation we have about Boulder’s energy future.
As an environmental consultant this issue is critical to me for many reasons. I know Dan, owner of the Boulder Outlook Hotel, from collaborating with him to create Boulder’s first Zero Waste Hotel. I have seen time and again that he walks his talk. Dan is dedicated to local, renewable energy delivered in a reliable and cost effective way whether or not it is through municipalization.
Dan sees that our success or failure with this endeavor will pave the way or close doors for other communities with the same goals. It is crucial that we invest the best skills and thinking we have to get it right. He brings international accounting skills and a commitment to include all points of view in the conversation.
He felt so strongly about keeping an open mind that when he was approached by a local action group to endorse a lengthy statement which included the sentence “I endorse Boulder’s efforts to municipalize!”, he thoughtfully replied that he was not willing to sign with that sentence in place. In response the group modified the statement and now simply asks people to endorse measures 2A and 2B.
If you oppose 2A and 2B and they pass know that Dan will be a voice for due diligence and making sound choices each step of the way.
If you support 2A and 2B and they fail he will continue to look for ways to take us in the direction of local, renewables seeking out diverse public involvement in the process.
