CU recently said that they are going to begin a $100 million construction geosciences building project. This is in addition to the recently completed on campus law building, the new Williams Village student housing, and the soon to be completed behemoth building next to LASP. Last I checked, higher education in Colorado keeps complaining (CU at the forefront) that they have to substantially increase tuition and fees for lack of money. And they have routinely requested more money from the state to cover their ever increasing costs.
It appears that CU does not care for its students or for Colorado in general. When the economy is bad, don’t build new, work with and improve what you have and build new when the economy has recovered. Use the money for education, not showing off.
Also, just because CU doesn’t have to follow the 55ft. height ordinance in Boulder doesn’t mean it would it kill them to do so. Every new building CU puts up blocks the view of the mountains. The huge building on Colorado Ave., next to LASP, is a prime example. And what are those fake “smoke stacks” on top? Ugly CU!
