No wonder the city council wants a raise. They spend their time entertaining ballot issues that “dozens of people” showed up for. Dozens of people – lets say 36 or 48… in a town for 100,000 people… that represents .048 percent… is that is about a half of one percent! Is that what it takes to get the city council’s attention.
For the record, I totally support taking a stand against personhood for corporations. However, this is NOT a city council issue. Yet, the Council debated this until 1:30 AM!!! In the meantime they can’t figure out how to get generate enough sales tax to support basic services like paving city streets, and supporting police services to maintain safety!
City Council… I will defiitely be voting AGAINST any raise for you. It is my contention that if you focused on local CORE city services, you could get your job done in the time allotted. (I am not kidding – I once called the city about seeing if I could ever get my shady, steep street snow-plowed… and they said I had to take the issue it to City Council… no wonder the Council is bogged down.) Until that time I will vote against any compensation raise for Council submitted to the voters. I figure if you want to debate about issues not central to city government because 1/2 of one percent of the population says you should, then you should do it on your own dollar.
