Alexander von Allmen: 4/20 keeps boulder gridlocked

4/20 keeps boulder gridlocked through the evening.

Dear editor,

As a 12 year citizen of Boulder I am forever dumbfounded by the ever growing
celebration that is 4/20. Each year it seems as though more and more people
flock to the city of Boulder to partake in this annual celebration. While I have no
personal qualms with the legalizing or the engaging in use of marijuana, the
fringe effects concern me. Not only does the 4/20 celebration draw people from
all over, it also brings with it their garbage, lack of adequate parking, a massive
spending increase on the city and the university, and generally a traffic
nightmare. Is it too much to ask to be able to go about my daily routine, without
being stuck in traffic for 20 extra minutes, or being forced to show my student
id card whenever I entered CU buildings today? Now that marijuana is legal for
medical use, I question why thousands of people still find it necessary to come
out in such droves to smoke together? Sincerely, 4/20 gridlock
