Like a lot of us in Boulder/Boulder county I thoroughly enjoyed Barack
Obama’s extremely successful day today 12/22
in which he signed the DADT bill and the 9-11 First responders medical
bills (over which there should never have been
even a moment’s debate) among other important liberal legislation. Add
to that the extension of Unemployment benefits
and this certainly seems to be another ‘Phoenix rising from the Ashes’
kind of performance by our intellectually astute President.
And I salute him.
But he/we would do well to keep in mind the costs that the Republicans
in particular with their unnecessary, unpaid for tax cuts,
but ultimately BOTH parties are responsible for putting this bill on
the heads of the American grand and great, perhaps even great, great
grand-children. I mean I understand austerity and cutting loose as
much of the unnecessary and unimportant matériel as possible will
help us consume less and change our heads but let us leave them
SOMETHING to consume and work with even it isn’t all we should have or
could have.
Americans will still be in the game but it seems the playing field
will be levelling out a bit now with the rest of the world and that
may take some getting use to.
