Wake up, Democrats and Progressives!
Today there is news that Republicans have taken the lead in ballots
cast so far, contrary to the last two elections. This is just more
evidence that Republicans are “fired up” and that, speaking generally,
Democrats are apathetic.
This apathy is hard to understand, given that the President and
Democrats in Congress have delivered on most of what they promised,
with no help from Republicans, and that the difference between the two
parties is stark. But the apathy appears to exist, and its result may
well be to elect Ken Buck as Colorado’s next Senator.
Buck is tied with Senator Bennet in the two most recent polls. Buck
believes that the impact of humans on climate change has not been
shown and has associated himself with leading climate-denier Senator
Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, who believes that climate change is a hoax.
Buck would outlaw abortion in cases of rape and incest. His position
on extreme Ballot amendment 62, which would turn fertilized eggs into
“persons,” is at best murky. He toys with privatizing federal
entitlement programs.
Is a Senator with these views and positions what Democrats and
progressives want? If not, and if you have not already voted, cast
off your apathy and vote for Michael Bennet. Otherwise, you will have
no standing to complain when Senator Buck votes to block everything
the President proposes and casts votes on social and environmental
issues that you do not support. In a dead-even race, your vote may
make the difference.
