Boulder County Issue 3A is an important opportunity for Boulder residents to assure that our children have not just the quality education they deserve, but an education which fully prepares them to be leaders in the 21st century. The Boulder Valley School district has suffered greatly by state budget restraints and underinvestment in recent times. Despite the overall growth of our economy, state economists say that Colorado faces a deficit of nearly $1.1 billion in the coming fiscal year. To fill this gap, suggested cuts have been proposed which target educational funds, funds which need to be invested in our children’s future, not used to correct the state’s deficit. This is an attempt to fix an immediate symptom of a greater problem by compromising our children’s education and our future economic security, both as a state and as a nation. As a county which serves as an example of education, ingenuity and hard work, Boulder County Issue 3A is a way for our community to demonstrate our collective dedication to education and our children’s future.
