I truly believe that immigration is one of the biggest issues in the United States that needs to be solved right away. There’s a lot of families out there in the world been separated due to lack of immigration reform. In my opinion that is unjust. It’s wrong to take a kid’s mom away from them, a wife’s husband, or a husband’s wife, that just does not seem right. A family should not be separated because each member depends on one another to survive. An example of this is when children are involved. A forceful separation of a child and their parent or guardian can cause trauma. People can get depressed and start doing things that can cause harm to themselves, such as cutting themselves or attempt to commit suicide. It’s hard for people to understand the intense after effects of a forceful separation of a family due to immigration, unless you have been personally affected. How would you feel if you were separated from your loved ones? There
needs to be a solution for all this unfairness.
Not only is the separation of families a devastating situation caused by current immigration laws, but the lack of opportunities and continual education for students of immigrant families are a problem. There are millions of adolescents that have been raised in the United States and know this as their only home. When these young adults begin to look for their career doors start to close on them because of their legal status. Universities and jobs require these young adults to have a certain status without taking into regard that they have lived here their whole lives and completed the necessary education to proceed these opportunities. There are many young people with great skills and abilities to share with the world. If immigration laws were improved many students would be able to go to a four year university.
Everyone has dreams and goals they want to pursuit. We are all human and everyone deserves a chance. If immigrant students get a chance, maybe our world can become a better place. Like many people say to kids, and young adults “you are the future of our world,” well than give your future world a chance. As noted above current immigration laws need to be fixed so families are not separated and adolescents of immigrant families can have opportunities that they deserve. There needs to be change soon! If there’s no change people will be affected and brilliant students will be left without a chance to follow their dreams. Let’s make a change and make this world a better place for everyone.
