In your newspaper of March 24, an Associated Press story said, “The bipartisan welcome [of Netanyahu] underscored the congressional support for Israel…it pointed to the limited options, beyond verbal rebukes, the Obam administration faces in pressuring the Jewish state.” Israel is not an ally; it is a dependency. Our national interests diverge. In his recent report to the Senate Armed Services Committee, General Petraeus said, “ The [Israeli-Palestinian] conflict foments anti-American sentiment due to a perception of US favoritism for Israel. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda…exploits that anger to mobilize support.” Too many of my fellow Jews support this destructive (to Israel) approach to our relationship with Israel. Not surprisingly, our national media buried General Patraeus’ remarks.
