School lunches & Chef Ann -

The recent article failed to mention lunches include “BlackJack Pizza” two days a week and local vendor “evol burrittos” once a week.
The district site states “traditional cheese pizza” but it’s BlackJack – not a pizza made on site, which is one of the easiest items made from scratch.

The district pays $86,000 a year to Chef Ann and $300,000 to her consulting company for 1 year or so which, I understand, includes 5 people (I couldn’t find their names, specific info on them or their credentials) who are in Boulder part of the time and the other half back home in California “studying” the Boulder Valley School lunch dilemma.

Has anyone done a cost analysis of phasing out the nutrition services staff and chef completely and simply bidding to local vendors for all meals?
The savings in salaries and benefits could be significant and budget shortfalls might well lead to this action anyway.

We don’t pay BlackJack pizza’s health benefits or salaries and their pizza has apparently been approved by Chef Ann and costs the same or less than the nutrition staff can create, so why have a district nutrition staff at all?
