RE: Teachers upset over BVSD action

This a response to the article “Teachers upset over BVSD action” Tues., Feb. 9 by Vanessa Miller.  It’s absolutely infuriating to read about the BVSD teacher’s union wasting time and resources…again.  When I tell someone I teach, I feel embarrassed to be associated with such an idiotic organization.  The Camera, in the future, should make it clear to its readers that there is a huge difference between “teachers” and teachers who belong to a union; they are NOT of the same mind-set.  It’s true we may share classrooms and the lunchroom, but… that’s about the end of it.  As far as I’m concerned union members are the latest in a trend of people with what is now called, “intellectual disability.”

Honestly, something tells me we, as teachers and administrators, have more important things to consider for our students than concerning ourselves over whether teachers had their voices heard via some obscure ‘”shared decision-making”‘ policy.  Beside the point that it was a message from our President about the importance of education, the principal doesn’t need to check-in with teachers about making decisions…period.  And the notion that the argument was that the union was referring to some obscure policy regarding “…controversial issues.”  Where’s the controversy?  Did I mention that grieving about this nonsense is a waste of time?  There are real issues at BVSD schools, which need real attention from everyone in our community right now, so to have the union wasting everyone’s time with wasting time and energy about whether or not their precious few have their voices heard is a necessary agenda item is laughable.

So, what’s the lesson here?  Principals need to ask permission from the entire teaching staff before they make a decision for the school they lead?  The notion is absurd and insulting.  I can’t speak for other teachers in other schools in BVSD, but I trust my principal to make decisions for the school’s best interest, AND I trust that it is not part of his job function to survey the entire staff on every, single decision that comes up.

I would like to suggest that everyone who is a currently a BVSD union member forgoe their dues to the union and start saving their money, buying stock, or go out and buy something from one of our local businesses to stimulate the economy instead of contributing to the delinquency of intellectual, logical thought and efficiency.
