Our health care system has serious problems. A federal study shows that health care spending rose to $2.5 trillion in 2009 and is expected to nearly double by 2019. Millions are denied basic care, families are forced into bankruptcy, premium costs go up to the detriment of American business, and the part of the national debt due to medical costs is spiraling out of control while the medical industry makes record profits. Those with pre-existing conditions (such as I have) face discrimination and financial crises if they ever lose employer insurance.

The people of Massachusetts don’t care about the rest of us because THEY have health insurance, but they too are heading for financial disaster. If the medical industry remains unchanged, the whole country will be brought down into financial ruin.

We are so close to passing health reform, but Congress makes the prospects for reform look dismal because many members are “owned” by special interests. They line their own pockets rather than doing what is good for American citizens and the economy. Both political parties must work together for the good of the country or divided we will fall.

For the sake of all of our children, Congress needs to come together without delay to pass meaningful health care reform (not Senate sausage) that insures all citizens, controls costs, and preserves our economy from ruin by the medical industry.
