In the Fall Semester of 1974 I took a class as part of my engineering studies at CU that was called “Science and the Modern World” under Professor Duane Ball (wonderful guy). The class dealt with the effect man has on the environment. We studied the projections made by Professor Paul Ehrlich (still at Stanford) and a young scientist named John Holdren. They edited a book in 1971 titled “Global Ecology”. Mr. Holdren wrote an essay which predicted that particulates generated by human activity were going to cause a catastrophic new ice age. Much of the class dealt with the upcoming disaster of global cooling. Mr. Holdren is now the Director of Science and Technology for the current administration. He and his mentor Dr. Ehrlich are leaders in the “settled science” of man made global warming. I was skeptical as a young engineering student. Now I am just amused.
