On 12/5, a spokesperson for food companies, J. Justin Wilson, wrote in the Camera:“But when it comes to soda, activist logic has a fatal flaw: There`s not a drop of truth to the notion that one kind of beverage, such as soda, is largely responsible for weight gain.” The writer claims that our Government is simply looking for excuses to tax corporations.

A few days later, I received my UCLA Alumni magazine, “Public Health” (November, 2009) containing the following report:

“A recent study by the School of Public Health-based Center for Health Policy Research (showed) a strong association between soda consumption and obesity….. Regardless of income or ethnicity, adults who drink a soda or more per day are 27% more likely to be overweight than those who do not drink sodas. Children were found to be particularly addicted…..” (See: http://healthpolicy.ucla.edu for details.)

When it comes to credibility, I would find UCLA more believable than food corporation spokespersons..
