I took my son to Children’s hospital on Friday and the doctors told us that my son needs a “cough machine”. This machine will force a breath of air into his lungs by way of a mask then suck the air from him, forcing a cough, thereby forcing the mucus to come up and get out of his lungs. We were told that they would need to rush on the order of this machine or it will be difficult to get approved. If this bill passes, this machine will be denied. I was SO ANGRY about this. I can only assume that the reason it will be denied is because he is terminally ill and in the end, suffocating on his own mucus is what will take his life. So, because it is inevitable at some point, there is no reason to elongate his life?? I do not support this bill and fear for my sons well being. My son is not following the criteria for his disease; he is doing better than most kids his age. However, this bill will deny him what he needs, based on his diagnosis. This bill does NOT give my son a fair chance and will hinder his quality of life.
