I am convinced that the plan for universal health coverage will do more harm than good for insured Americans, and very little good for the uninsured Americans. The country is broke, we cannot afford to pay for all of the programs we have now. I know they tell me that it is “self funded”; however, I have never seen any government program that is self-funded. The government does not make a red cent, unless you want to call tax collection income. All government money comes from the work product of American people. The Federal Government has not shown itself to be fiscally responsible enough to have control of the money that is involved with this plan.
Several states have already created plans to cover the uninsured. Individual states have a much better idea what works best for their own localities. Federal government should not be mandating policies, coverage and costs nationwide. This is how we end up with bike paths in Alaska, where the road is not traveled by bicyclists and covered with snow 9 months of the year.
I fear this has nothing to do with concern for the American citizen. I fear this is another opportunity to control the American citizen, as well as line the pockets of special interests and special legislators. If it were to be such a wonder plan, then why wouldn’t every government worker want to sign up and not have special exemption from the plan?
