I am truly saddened and somewhat perplexed by the recent closure of Boulder Falls. I feel very sorry for the folks who have been injured or lost loved ones at the Falls. But this beautiful spot has been around and enjoyed by Boulderites and visitors for years and years.
Since the public’s safety can’t be guaranteed at the falls due to the natural surroundings (and the pesky way that rocks tend to fall), they are now off-limits. If we take this logic to it’s extreme conclusion: Will they close all areas around Boulder Creek when it’s raining (just in case those pesky raindrops tend to make the rocks wet and therefore unsafe)? Will they close all outdoor parks just in case lightning strikes (another pesky natural occurrence that can’t be controlled)? I am fully aware that I am taking my life into my hands by getting out of my car to enjoy the natural surroundings. I find this risk acceptable and am willing to take personal responsibility for my safety in the great outdoors. I am probably not alone in this. Please keep Boulder Falls open!
