I want to clarify one inaccuracy in the Daily Camera article on Sunday, November 8.  The proposed bicycle amenity is a mountain bike skills track suitable for use by all age groups, genders, and skills levels.  We specifically designed it to appeal to a broad sector of the Town of Superior residents.  It is not a “BMX track”.  And the name ‘Community Park East’ is only the working title used by the Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee and can be renamed in a community-wide competition.
More important than the naming convention of the three combined amenities included in this park is the fact that funding would come mostly from grants the State of Colorado targets to outdoor projects that benefit the majority of residents. To imply that the cost of the
dog park is somehow “out of the ball park” is highly inaccurate.
Studies by PROSTAC have shown what it costs to do it right.  And to turn down grant money from the state is a disservice to Superior residents.  It appears from the article that certain vocal minority interests are determined to deny the citizens the basic right to use Town of Superior property.  The suggestion that Superior residents should just get in their vehicles and go to Louisville or Boulder to enjoy a dog park is absolutely counter to the goals of making our town a better place to live.  A survey of residents placed a dog park in the high priority category.  It is not by chance that Louisville gets top ratings as one of America’s best small cities.  Maybe we can’t have a library or a post office, but surely we can have a multi-use park that celebrates the open air, natural lay of the land of the planned park, and the diversity of town residents.  We want Superior
to be more than a collection of houses and neighborhoods; a ‘burb.
The citizens of Superior deserve and demand a community that is much more than a just another bland suburb.  I implore Superior residents to contact their elected representatives to ensure rapid approval of the three parks plan.  Support our Mayor Andrew Muckle, ask your neighbors to get active, go on the town website at www.townofsuperior.com , do your part to make Superior a better place to live and work.
