As someone who frequently attends city council and planning board meetings, and like the majority of Boulder citizens, I also seek elected officials who have integrity, are decent communicators, use their intelligence, are diplomatic, and above all – are for the people. Council or planning board members should never make key development decisions on behalf of developers, any one group, or organization that hand out money – that’s being bought!
Developers have had their run of things for the past 10 years. They’ve given us all the huge buildings along the north side of Canyon between 14th and 9th streets that look like Wall Street concrete jungle type businesses – hardly any “green” areas. Of course, there are others! How about let’s give small businesses a chance!
The most pressing issues facing us today are: stabilizing our economy with sustainability, continuing to strive for excellence as to the environment, taking care of all our citizens – rich/middle-class/poor, and most of all saving the character of our city for many generations to come.
No one should be permitted to do any of the above for “its citizens” if they can’t be trusted. When there are candidates and current council members that think that there’s nothing wrong with accepting funds from developers for past/current/future grand scheme favors in return – they have no integrity, and “anyone” who doesn’t get that needs to be booted out, because it smells!
All my candidate picks have integrity, listen to the common citizen, and won’t be bought – Macon Cowles, Jyotsna Raj, Tim Plass, Seth Brigham, and Valerie Mitchell. The others have lost their integrity don’t support the majority of the people’s issues, or haven’t met a developer they didn’t like.
