I have always thought of the press as being ‘the watch dog’ for the public interest. Listening and recording public meetings. The citizenry cannot be at all meeting and disseminate the information of such proceedings. That, I presumed, is for the media.
Now I believe it is the citizenry’s responsibility to be the watch dog of the media. Two cases in point. On August 27, the Camera printed an article with the headline “Vandalism tied to health care; suspect arrested after Dem HQ windows broken”. If you read the article and followed the story, you would know that the suspect who broke $11000 worth of windows in Denver was a Democratic activist. There was no evidence that the vandalism was related to health care. The suspect would not discuss motive with police. So the headline is very speculative. And thus irresponsible of the paper to jump to a such a conclusion.
Next point, Erika Stutzman’s editorial of Aug 27, 2009. She labels individuals who question the president’s place of birth as racists. I would expect a journalist who was after the truth and facts would not resort to name calling in effort to squash the questions. Call me whatever you want, just answer a few questions based on the facts we know.
-President Obama stated he will have a transparent administration but he has refused to release the long form of this birth certificate (not certificate of live birth). He has not released any transcripts from college or law schools. In fact he signed an executive order on Jan 21, 2009 that sealed all such files on past, present or future presidents.
-Female twins born in Hawaii the day after the birth of Obama have a long form certificate and the number on that form precedes the number on Obama’s short form;
-Obama has spent over an estimated $1.2 million just since his inauguration to a law firm to fight the law suits filed regarding his place of birth, a $6 form from the Department of Health in Hawaii would quiet the critics and end the law suits;
-Obama’s mom, at age 18, took classes at the University of Washington 3 weeks after her son was born, she did not stay in Hawaii as realted in his books;
- Obama senior’s address was not the address listed in the birth notices in the local papers.
There are other stories circulating, on talk show, on the internet. What should we believed? Find the facts, get the original form and quiet the rumors. And stop intimidating those who ask for proof. The truth will come out, eventually. Somewhere there are 2 young Woodward and Bernstein working on this new story.
