Macon Cowles August 30th guest commentary “It’s not all about pops and scrapes” is merely an unpaid ad disguised as a commentary patting himself on the back for all the wonderful things he and city council have done for the community. After all it is an election year. But it really is all about pops and scrapes because his interaction with individuals in this process has shown his distain for and inability to be truthful with Boulder residents. I offer two examples.
First, after hearing hours of input from residents with respect to the proposed pops and scrapes ordinance at the August 4th hearing, Mr. Cowles immediately called for an ordinance to be passed without any discussion of the public’s real world concerns. He asked not one question nor acknowledged any real life concern. Instead, he proposed an even more restrictive ordinance, rejecting that which his own Planning Board had proposed two weeks earlier after they too spent hours receiving public comment and input which caused them to modify the ordinance. Secondly, he was at best disingenuous and at worst a liar, when he emailed me the following comment on April 5, 2008 regarding a problem we were having in saving a small house in Mapleton Hill from scraping due to their proposed emergency FAR reduction of 56% (.80 to .35):
“Dan, thanks for your post. I applaud you for what you are doing, and do not think that any approach taken by Council on this matter will impede your plans. No one is thinking of a FAR of .35 at this stage in the discussion. And I am not sure any FAR will fly. We have discovered through people like you that an FAR approach negatively affects the people in your situation without taking care of some of the huge stuff that is built in town”.
Thank God, I did not believe him and canceled the purchase contract. It’s all about trust Mr.Cowles .
