Several years ago I chose to install rooftop solar electric collectors on my house. It was a big expense which I am still paying for, but I wanted to do my part to slow down global warming and to contribute by taking the load of electrical production off Xcel and improve air quality and the health of Coloradans.
I was amazed when I read that Xcel now is proposing increasing my electric bill because I have solar collectors. Why would they want to charge me for helping them out?
Last month my Xcel electric bill totaled $53.74. Of that total my residential general use amounted to only $23.03, but I paid an additional $30.71 in fees, adjustments, and taxes. It’s remarkable that I pay more in fees than I do in usage! Now there is the possibility that Xcel will be charging me one more fee!
I am confident that the PUC is looking at all angles of this rate increase, and that they will be sensitive to those of us who are customers of Xcel who have chosen to help out the state, the environment, and especially Excel Energy.
